Joel Wacek is a Principal of Hoffman Alvary.  His practice focuses on financial and economic analysis for intellectual property disputes, licensing and business valuation matters.  Mr. Wacek has a decade of experience in computing damages in intellectual property infringement matters, as well as providing financial analysis related to breach of contract and business valuation disputes.

Mr. Wacek has prepared expert reports and provided testimony on the amount of damages arising from the infringement of intellectual properties.  Through his work with other principals at Hoffman Alvary, he has managed dozens of intellectual property infringement cases from the discovery phase through trial.  Mr. Wacek also has extensive experience in assisting counsel in preparing for depositions and trial examinations. 

In his work related to intellectual property disputes, Mr. Wacek continually monitors the developing changes in patent damages case law to inform his complex damages analyses involving lost profits, reasonable royalties and price erosion.  He is also experienced in preparing analyses of unjust enrichment damages related to the infringement or misappropriation of copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets.

Mr. Wacek also works with the firm’s principals to provide economic and financial analyses of the value of license agreements, intangible assets and business entities.  His practice also involves assisting patent holders and companies in developing licensing strategies and assisting with finding licensees for intellectual properties.  Mr. Wacek’s role in these engagements focuses on market analysis, royalty rate research and the evaluation of potential licensees. 

Mr. Wacek holds an M.B.A. and a Masters of Science in Finance from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, and a B.A. in both Economics and History from Boston College. He is a Certified Licensing Professional and member of the Licensing Executives Society.
